Snap On Ethos Pro 17.2

I know this is a couple months old, but in case anyone was still wondering, 17.2 was the last update for the solus pro. I just bought a solus pro on Sat that has 14.4, called snap on today and they confirmed 17.2 was the last update for it and they just released 17.4 last month. Now im stuck on 14.4 šŸ˜”šŸ˜”šŸ˜”. The night before i bought it i was reading somewhere online that there would be at least a couple years of updates for it, so i was happy i still had time to save up and get at least one update or the last update before they no longer updated this scanner. Figures, i find out after i buy it i just missed the last update.
I work for an hvac company as a fleet mechanic, hopefully i can convince my boss to only buy 2014s and older lol. Since i went on the dealer locator and put numerous addresses and they all said theres no dealers servicing that area, eventhough i see snap on trucks around here all the time, even put the address for the bmw dealership i used to work at and even that says no dealers in the area

Both reviewers thought the tool offered extensive coverage at a reasonable price.

The tool also features automatic vehicle identification, one-touch all systems code scan and clear and more.

The Review

Tom Multerer and Chris Davenport both recently reviewed the Snap-on Ethos Tech scan tool. Multerer, a technician at Bredemann Ford in Glenview, Ill., found he saved time when using the tool on multiple domestic vehicles.

Uno reverse card transparent. Multerer was able to diagnose a misfire on a 2000 Ford Expedition, which, according to him, could have taken up to three hours to find and fix the problem. ā€œWith the Ethos,ā€ he says, ā€œit only took 10 minutes.ā€

Update

He also used the tool to diagnose and monitor a drivability concern with a 2000 Ford Taurus and for an ABS concern on a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

Chris Davenport, Owner of Louā€™s Garage in Lake Forest, Ill., also reviewed the Ethos Tech. Davenport found the Ethos to have a quick boot-up time. Compared to the competitive scan tool he was previously using, the Ethos delivered a code scan three times faster, says Davenport.

According to both reviewers, no setup was required for the tool. Davenport says, ā€œIt was plug-and-play right out of the box.ā€

Ethos

Both reviewers also noted that the Ethos came with a soft case, battery charger and USB cable. A manual was included, but because of the toolā€™s ease-of-use, neither reviewer read it.

Multerer likes that the scan tool holds vehicle information, so he has the option of going back to something he was previously working on. He also likes the graphing functions and Data Logger. Data Logger allows the technician to see what the vehicle was doing when the vehicle coded.

Multerer's favorite function of the tool is the touchscreen. ā€œYou can use the buttons or the touchscreen. If my hands are really dirty, I can use the buttons, but the touchscreen makes the tool really fast to use.ā€

Davenport says the navigation was the most beneficial function due to the quick refresh and no lag time when scrolling through data items. He adds, ā€œThe screens are self-explanatory and very easy to navigate. I felt within two days that I had a very good understanding of the features and capabilities.ā€

In his shop, Davenport encounters a mix of domestic, Asian and European vehicles. ā€œThis scanner handles all the jobs I want it to do.ā€

He has used the Ethos for applications such as basic code reading to coding keyless entry on a Volkswagen, coding throttle bodies on Audi and Volvo and for climate control diagnostics on a Mercedes Benz.

Neither reviewer could find anything that he didnā€™t like about the Ethos scan tool. ā€œEverything Iā€™ve used it for, Iā€™ve liked. It does ABS, not just engine controls. You can monitor sensors as youā€™re moving down the road,ā€ says Multerer.

Snap On Ethos Pro Review

Davenport likes the speed of use and the comprehensive coverage for an economically priced unit, he says. ā€œThey also included three years of software updates in the price.ā€

Snap On Ethos Pro

ā€œFor a low-cost scan tool this unit has very good capabilities and coverage. Of course it canā€™t do everything but for the price point it blows away (competitive) units I previously used and cross-shopped against,ā€ says Davenport.

Snap On Ethos Pro Update

Multerer offers a similar review ā€œIā€™ve used other manufacturer scan tools. This tool does a lot more than the other tools, and it wasnā€™t outrageously priced. Thatā€™s what I like about it.ā€
